Weekends

I need help. I overeat on weekends. Not always, but more often than not. How do you motivated people do it? We often spend the weekend with friends and family, and that always involves some sort of eating. Sometimes I can plan ahead, but a lot of times I can't. I try and eat light during the day, so I can have a little more for dinner, but that always backfires. I end up being starving for dinner and eat too much. Then I spend the rest of the week working extra hard to make up for it, and then guess what? Another weekend hits. It is a cycle I find very hard to break.

Any tips?

Yea....I try that attitude "I am going to eat lighter today so I can have more tonight" NEVER WORKS! The few times I have been successful I have FILED UP on fruits and vegies right before we leave.....and try to stay away from alcohol... But, like I said, it has only happened a few times, sometimes I just don't WANT to eat healthy.

I'm kind of the opposite. I travel for work, so weekends are my only real time to myself. That's when I eat healthy, get in my good workouts, etc. During the week, I'm surrounded by others whenever I'm eating, and I can't ever cook because I'm traveling - we always go out to these really nice restaurants where I feel like I have to indulge because they're a lot nicer than anyplace I could afford. For me, it goes in cycles as well.

Try to focus not on eating lightly as in very little, but eating lightly as in eating a ton of really low cal stuff. I've been getting those bags of stir fry stuff (cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, snap peas) from the grocery store - they're sold in the produce area. One HUGE bag is 4 servings at 25 calories a serving. So for 100 calories, I feel ridiculously full, and it makes me eat a little less for dinner.

Maybe try something like that? It's SO hard though... I sympathize completely.

My only tip is to workout in the morning, or whenever you can before the meet up with friends. I notice once I work out I don't crave as much "bad" food. Weekends are bad for me too, but when I focus on working out a lot on the weekend I am always much better!

also if you workout, you are allowed a few extra calories anyway right? haha

I second the workout recommendation. As far as food goes, I find that there are more temptations for me during the week than on the weekend, so this is something I deal with basically every day. The only thing that works for me is eating the bulk of my calories for breakfast and lunch. I make sure to get several servings of fruit and veggies, but also protein and fiber and dairy in forms that I really enjoy- a good whole grain toast with almond butter, fruit preserves, and whipped cottage cheese makes a really delicious and filling breakfast. The key seems to be finding nutritional foods that you crave (almond butter and jelly for me) so it already feels like you're treating yourself. Then, when the social events roll around, you'll be legitimately satiated and really won't want to do more than sample the delicious but non-nutritious food. That was an absolute epiphany for me, and the reason I've been able to lose about 30 pounds in the last 5 months- make dinner your smallest meal of the day. Just try it, and I guarantee the "temptations" won't seem like temptations anymore. Good luck with whatever approach you take!

I have the same problem. The only thing that works for me is to do very well during th week. I try not to use any flex points during the week so that I can kick back and have a fun weekend without worrying about it too much. It's hard to worry about being OP all of the time...

I try my hardest to stay busy on the weekends. I do agree though with the others. Try and do good all week so you can allow yourself the extras on the weekends.
Good Luck!
